Reflecting on 2024 and a Look Ahead to 2025

Alastair Muir Wood, CEO: In a year marked by democratic change and a turbulent macroeconomic environment, Wood Thilsted has remained steadfast in our commitment to advancing offshore wind and championing sustainability. Here are some of the key achievements that defined 2024 for us.

New study shows that ocean waves can grow beyond known limits

Research published in Nature has shown that when waves are considered as three-dimensional features, rather than the simplified two-dimensional assumptions often used, they can become twice as steep before they break and continue to grow even steeper after breaking has occurred. These findings challenge the validity of the current methods used to predict the onset of wave breaking and used within design of offshore structures, particularly in highly directionally spread seas.

Wood Thilsted appointed as Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind FEED for Turbine Foundations

Wood Thilsted, is pleased to announce that it has been appointed as the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) wind turbine foundation designer for Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind, a 1.5GW offshore wind farm located 33 miles (54km) off the Lincolnshire coast. Upon completion, Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind will be one of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms producing power equivalent to that used by 1.6million UK homes.
