Wood Thilsted Supports CIP & COP’s Fengmiao I Offshore Wind Farm as it Reaches Financial Close

The 495 MW project marks a significant step forward in Taiwan’s clean energy ambitions.

25th March 2025, London | Copenhagen | Taipei – Wood Thilsted proudly celebrates the financial close of the 495 MW Fengmiao I offshore wind project, developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) – a landmark achievement for Taiwan’s renewable energy future.

A Pivotal Milestone for Taiwan’s Offshore Wind Industry

This milestone supports Taiwan’s ambitious target of installing 15 GW of offshore wind capacity between 2026 and 2035.  Notably, Fengmiao I is the first of Taiwan’s Round 3 projects to reach financial close and move into construction – setting a powerful precedent for future projects across the region.

Wood Thilsted’s Head of APAC, Sarah Elkhatib, reflected on the achievement:

“This is a pivotal moment – not only for the project but for the region. It reinforces Taiwan’s offshore wind potential and paves the way for future developments.

Wood Thilsted is proud to have supported Fengmiao I’s journey so far, providing survey management and ground engineering expertise throughout development.  We’re excited to continue collaborating with COP and its partners to bring this landmark project to life.”

Wood Thilsted’s Continued Role

As Fengmiao I transitions into the construction phase, Wood Thilsted remains committed to ensuring its success, providing engineering expertise and key personnel to help drive the project forward.

Wood Thilsted’s Country Manager for Taiwan, Simon Faulkner, commented:

“We’re thrilled to continue our collaboration on Fengmiao I, providing ongoing engineering support alongside the secondment of key personnel, including the roles of Foundation Design Manager and OSS Project Engineer.

Reaching financial close is an outstanding achievement – a testament to the collaborative efforts of the entire team, including CIP, COP, Wood Thilsted, and local and international partners.”

Recognising Leadership and Resilience

Acknowledging the headwinds currently facing the industry, Simon added:

“Special congratulations to Joris Hol and the COP senior management team for guiding the project to financial close under demanding conditions. As the project now moves into construction, Joris hands over the role of Project CEO to Mark Wainwright – one safe pair of hands to another.”

Strengthening Our Commitment to APAC

This milestone comes as Wood Thilsted continues to invest in strengthening its regional presence and supporting clients across APAC. The recent appointment of Sarah Elkhatib as Head of APAC reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering world-class engineering expertise – further solidifying Wood Thilsted’s position as a global leader in designing the energy transition.
