Wood Thilsted welcomes minority investment from Inflexion
Inflexion, a leading mid-market private equity firm, has made a minority investment in the fast-growing renewables engineering consultancy, Wood Thilsted, who are at the forefront of designing major offshore wind projects worldwide.
The investment, from Inflexion’s Enterprise Fund V, which is focused on ambitious SMEs, will see Wood Thilsted’s founders (Alastair Muir Wood and Christian LeBlanc Thilsted) remain as majority owners, continuing to drive the business forward as global energy production makes its transition towards renewable sources.
Founded in 2015, and currently employing over 140 people in five countries, Wood Thilsted is looking to expand further globally to meet strong demand for its services in feasibility, development, engineering, installation and operation. Delivery of 8GW of projects across four continents includes SSE and Equinor’s Dogger Bank, ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia Hub and Vineyard Wind, America’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm.
The investment from Inflexion will support Wood Thilsted to scale and grow internationally as the company offers an increasing range of services to a growing client base. The market it operates in is benefitting from strong underlying market growth in offshore wind farms of over 20% per annum, supported by government green energy targets.
Simon Turner, Managing Partner at Inflexion, commented, “In a relatively short space of time, Wood Thilsted has clearly demonstrated the huge opportunity in offshore wind and is extremely well placed to meet it. We look forward to playing our part in seeing Wood Thilsted reach its potential as its growth is further propelled by the global shift in energy consumption.”
Christian LeBlanc Thilsted, CTO & Co-Founder of Wood Thilsted, added: "This timely collaboration with Inflexion will accelerate our growth so that we can continue to deliver the very best engineering solutions for offshore wind. Inflexion’s investment and advice will help us achieve our global goals, but leave us firmly in charge of our own destiny."
