Wood Thilsted, is pleased to announce that it has been appointed as the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) wind turbine foundation designer for Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind, a 1.5GW offshore wind farm located 33 miles (54km) off the Lincolnshire coast. Upon completion, Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind will be one of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms producing power equivalent to that used by 1.6million UK homes.
Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind is being developed by TotalEnergies, Corio Generation (a portfolio company of Macquarie Asset Management operating on a standalone basis) and Gulf Energy Development. The Development Consent Order application, that was accepted by the Planning Inspectorate in April 2024, includes an offshore wind farm comprising up to 100 turbines, underground cables to carry the power from the landfall site close to Anderby Marsh and a new onshore substation at Surfleet Marsh. The project will then connect into existing National Grid overhead transmission lines in the Weston Marsh area.
The project is currently in the development phase with the aim to achieve all the necessary consents and complete the necessary surveys and engineering to enable the project to become operational by 2030.
Wood Thilsted have successfully completed the first phase of work and will now undertake the second phase of the FEED work. The contracted scope includes the FEED design for the primary and secondary structures, a range of detailed engineering studies, technical documentation, and cost modelling. The overarching aim is to minimize design and installation risks.
Wood Thilsted Director, Alastair Muir Wood, said, “We are very pleased to continue our support to Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind with this landmark project and are proud to be able to bring with us an enviable record of monopile design in the Southern North Sea. Having an established knowledge of this area and the associated site conditions brings a lot of value to the design and continue to derisk the project from an early stage. It’s a pleasure to collaborate with Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind, who share our ambitions for a low carbon, brighter future.”
Outer Dowsing Senior Project Manager, Jorge Parra, said, “Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind could result in an injection of over £2 billion of UK investment alongside the creation of hundreds of UK jobs. As we progress our engineering and secure contracts, we aim to bolster the UK skill-base and supply chain which will in turn help the UK realise our energy transition goals. We look forward to continuing working with Wood Thilsted to bring 1.5 GW of renewable power to the UK - reducing emissions and improving UK energy security”
